5 days Erg Chegaga dunes tour from Ouarzazate | SuperTours-Maroc
Day 1: Ouarzazate – Skoura – Roses Valley – Dades Gorges – Todra Gorges
After breakfast, you will be headed to Skoura-fertile oasis lined with immense palm groves. The Kasbah Amerhidil is one of the most famous landmarks of Skoura and is definitely worth seeing. The next destination is Kelaa M’gouna, a spot where “Festival des Roses” takes place every year in May. From here you will have the chance to see the nomads, their way of life, learn their habits and get to know their culture. You will be able to do all of this in the Atlas Mountains. However, just right when the off-road finishes and the asphalt begins you’ll see Ait Youl Kasbah and the green valley of Dades. You’ll reach Todra Gorges and the rest of the day is to appreciate the quietness of the mountains. Both the Todra and Dades Rivers have carved out cliff-sided canyons on their final 40 kilometers through the mountains. You will spend the night in an accommodation in a hotel in the middle of the gorges.
Day 2: Todra Gorges – Iknioun – Saghrou Mountains – Nkoub – Zagora
As usual, the day starts with breakfast, from where you will be taken to a rarely frequented off-road in a seldom-visited sector where you will experience landscapes very different from those that you may know. Iknioun and the Saghrou Mountains (based in the Berber Village of Aremd, at the foot of Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa) are not so famous and notable to many, but are really memorable, which adds more to your special experience. Before going to Zagore you will stop in Nkoub for lunch, and then continue with your trip.
Day 3: Zagora – Tamgroute – M’Hamid – Erg Chegaga dunes
Today’s journey includes the visit of a Koranic library-the Zaouia and a workshop of pottery makers. The trip continues via Paris Dakar Track, where you will experience other whole of the Saharan dunes. M’Hamid is a small village in Zagora region of Morocco, 98 km after Zagora, one of the two places in Morocco where Sahara begins (another is Merzouga). M’Hamid gets fewer visitors than Merzouga and is arguably more “authentic.” The day ends in the Erg Chegaga dunes, sleeping in unique nomad tents.
Day 4: Erg Chegaga – Foum Zguid – Taznakht – Agdez
This day you will wake up early, so you will have the chance to experience a sunrise in the dunes. This memorable moment is definitely a significant part of the whole experience. However, once the sun comes up you will be taken to see the nomad’s way of life, explore their habits and how they survive. From here your trip continues through the dry lake of Iriqui (The Iriqui National Park was created in 1994 and was established to protect the biodiversity, flora, and fauna across 123,000 hectares of south-eastern Morocco, and in particular to preserve the temporary wetlands of Lake Iriqui, at the heart of the desert), Foum Zguid village and Taznakht the capital of Ouaouzguite rag. This day ends in Agdez.
Day 5: Agdez – Tifoultoute – Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah – Ouarzazate
After breakfast, you will be challenged to cross the Anti Atlas Mountains, from where you will be taken to Tifoultoute (where you can see tha famous Kasbah of Tifoultoute). The last day includes the visit of one more Kasbah, the most preserved Ait-Ben-Haddou Kasbah (dating back to the 11 century). Many famous movies were filmed here, because of the unique nature and exquisite views. The trip ends with the return to Ouarzazate.
