Day 1: Fez – Ifrane – Midelt – Merzouga

Ifrane Lion

The trip starts from the second largest city of Morocco (with a population of 1.1 million) – Fez. From here you will be taken to the desert. However, on the way you will cross the Middle Atlas Mountains (the northernmost of three Atlas Mountains chains that define a large plateaued basin extending eastward into Algeria as the Tell Atlas), passing by the Ifrane Moroccan Swiss (a city in the Middle Atlas) style of town and cedar forests. Here, you will be given the chance to enjoy the natural landmarks of Morocco, relax in the forest and explore the unknown. Afterwards, you are being taken to Midelt, where you have lunch. This town is located in central Morocco, more exactly in the high plains between the Middle Atlas and High Atlas mountain ranges. Can you imagine the view? We continue over the Tizi-n-Talremt pass and through the Ziz Valley, which is particularly well-known for its palm trees and the length of the oasis. After this long, fulfilled day we are going back to the hotel late in the evening. Moreover, the hotel is right next to the dunes!

Day 2: Merzouga – Erg Chebbi – Merzouga

Erg Chebbi
Erg Chebbi

Waking up in the heart of the dunes is not the most admirable thing you will do today. The second day is planned for a large tour of the dunes. Erg Chebbi is one of Morocco’s two Saharan ergs, more exactly a large sea of dunes formed by wind-blown sand. Here, you will be able to meet the locals, see how they survive and live, get to know their habits, way of life, culture, and you will even be able to listen to live Gnaoua music which is played by the locals. Merzouga, the local tourist center, is located near the edge of the dunes. You will spend the night here, right under the stars in a nomad’s tent. Moreover, you will get here by a camel because it is really difficult to access this area.

Day 3: Merzouga – Dades Gorges

Another day you will wake up in the middle of nowhere… However, today you will be woken up really early, in order to see the sunrise over the dunes. Afterwards, you are getting one more camel trip, but this time back to the hotel. Here, you will have the necessary time to get ready, have a shower and a breakfast. Continuing to the Todra Gorges (a canyon in the eastern part of the High Atlas Mountains in Morocco) via Erfoud and many Berber villages like Tinjdad and Tinghir. Both the Todgha and Dades Rivers have carved out cliff-sided canyons through the mountains. The southernmost gorges are known for the extensive production of roses, used in the production of rose water. There are also groves of palm and almond trees. You will spend the night in the Dades Gorge.

Day 4: Dades gorges – Kelaa M’gouna – Skoura – Ouarzazate

Kelaa M'Gouna
Kelaa M’Gouna

Continue via Boutghrar to see how the nomads survive in their caves, set off via Kelaa M’gouna- a spot where “Festival des Roses” takes place every year in May. From here you will have the chance to see the nomads, their way of life, learn their habits and get to know their culture. The next destination is Skoura. This area is a fertile oasis lined with immense palm groves. The Kasbah Amerhidil is one of the most famous landmarks of Skoura and is definitely worth-seeing. The day ends with your return to Ouarzazate and checking in into your accommodation once again.

Day 5: Ouarzazate – Ait-Ben-Haddou – Marrakesh

Ait Ben Haddou
Ait Ben Haddou

The last day of the trip consists of coming back to Marrakesh. However, there are many stops on the way back. The first one is the best-preserved Kasbahs of Morocco (the historical-11th century Kasbah of Ait-Ben-Haddou). Moreover, many famous movies like Babel, Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven were filmed in this area. Continuing through the High Atlas and going back to Marrakesh.
